I really have to commend HONOR Philippines for all its product launches during the first year of its return to the country. You only have to point out the company’s success with the HONOR X9a 5G earlier this year.
Disclaimer: HONOR Philippines sent me the HONOR 90 5G review unit in Diamond Silver. I’ve been using it for more than 48 hours since opening the box as of this writing.
Unboxing Experience
Despite how standard this unboxing experience is, there are some aspects of this I appreciate. Phones in the P25,000 – P30,000 are where we start to see some exclusions such as phone cases. (I would say the lack of chargers but that seems limited to two big phone brands.)
One highlight here is the included 66W HONOR SuperCharge adapter along with a USB-A to USB-C cable. HONOR claims that this can charge the HONOR 90 from 0 to 45% in just 15 minutes and a full charge in 49 minutes. Let’s check those claims in the full review.
One thing I forgot to show off in the full unboxing shot is the included USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack dongle! This is really convenient especially for those who plan to use wired headphones or an external microphone.
Shine Bright Like A Diamond
I initially thought that I would get the black color of this phone. Glad that I was wrong in this case! This Diamond Silver color has a different texture on most of its back. I do see some fingerprints when touching the top part without the texture, but that can be cleaned easily. I’m also glad that more phones are staying away from the flat design since I really value the comfy hand feel.
The Value of Eye Protection
It may sound like I’m telling you to use your phone less, but the HONOR 90 5G can help you out! This phone has an industry-leading 3840Hz Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Dimming technology which helps give you a more flicker-free viewing experience at even lower brightness levels. The HONOR 90 got the TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification and achieved that risk-free dimming level so you can do those long binge-watching sessions without worries.
Besides having that flicker-free display, the HONOR 90 rocks a 6.7-inch Quad Curved AMOLED Display. It supports the 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and has a 2664 x 1200 resolution. I feel like having a 120Hz refresh rate in your display is table stakes for midrange phones. The curve on this display isn’t that pronounced compared to its midrange sibling HONOR X9a 5G.
That 200MP Camera Though!
The obvious standout feature of the HONOR 90 5G is its 200MP main camera. I’m also happy that we get one less camera since the 12MP Ultra Wide Camera also acts as the Macro Camera. There is still that 2MP depth camera though. If you value selfies more though, you’re in luck! This phone rocks a 50MP front camera that lets you take wider selfies so it won’t be a struggle to take group selfies!
