Smartphones gained more attention lately since it’s that time of year again. Phone makers not named Apple show off their latest flagships so often at this time that it’s obvious. I’m here to show you which smartphones came out in the past few months! Whether it’s for a graduation gift or you’re due for an upgrade, I’m sure that the phones I’ll mention will be worth your while. Without further ado, here’s your SMARTPHONE ALERT Spring 2017 edition!
Samsung Galaxy S8
I’ll just get the big one out of the way. Samsung solidified their position as the most dominant Android phone maker with the Galaxy S8. Thanks to its standout bezel-less screen called the “Infinity Display”, Samsung managed to fit a 5.8″ screen into a phone that’s not much bigger than Apple’s iPhone 7.
If that’s not enough, Samsung also has the Galaxy S8 Plus with a ridiculous 6.2″ screen in a body that’s maybe smaller than the Google Pixel! People who really like big screens on their phones would really appreciate the Galaxy S8 a lot. Samsung’s latest flagships will be available for preorder in the Philippines starting April 17th and will be out. For more info on the Galaxy S8, check out my post on this very blog!
It actually sucks that Samsung gets all the glory for having a bezel-less screen. There’s another phone that deserves just as much recognition: the LG G6.
Remember all those “Friends” you saw last year? Well, they are GONE with the G6. Instead of the modular phone concept, we just get a simple and sophisticated smartphone. LG focused on having a bezel-less screen and a dual camera. I wished LG uses stock Android but it’s not overbearing compared to previous versions.
For those planning on getting a G6 here in the Philippines, LG will have a Pre-Order Promotion from April 17-30!
They are including freebies worth P8,990!
If you’re convinced to get a G6, you’re sure to get more than what you pay for! You even get 2 YEARS OF WARRANTY for that! It’s a good deal if you ask me.
Huawei did a great job in 2016 with the P9. It offered top-of-the-line specs (5.2-inch 1080p display, 3000mAh battery) at an affordable price (P23,990 at launch). This year, Huawei pretty much kept the P10 with a similar design to the P9. A highlight of this phone is a better 20MP monochrome sensor compared to the P9’s 12MP sensor. Unlike last year, the Huawei P10 comes in a variety of colors: Arctic White, Dazzling Blue, Dazzling Gold, Prestige Gold, Graphite Black, Moonlight Silver, Rose Gold, and Greenery.
In the Philippines, we only get to choose from 3 colors at launch: Black, Gold, and Dazzling Blue. If you preorder on or before April 20, you can get an exclusive Travel Kit worth P5,000! You can preorder from Huawei Experience Stores, and Memoxpress stores. You can also preorder from Lazada!
ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom
Not wanting to be left out by their competitors in the Dual Camera race, ASUS came out with a Zenfone 3 variant with that feature. Meet the ZenFone 3 Zoom.
Of course, the standout feature is the 12MP dual-camera with laser autofocus and 2.3x Optical Zoom! (Thus the naming of said smartphone.) Other features include a Snapdragon 625 CPU, 4GB RAM, and either 32, 64, or 128 GB of internal storage!
Unlike the phones I’ve already mentioned, the ZenFone 3 Zoom is available to buy now from ASUS stores and selected phone dealers in the country. Price starts at P23,995 (presumably the 32GB model). If you buy now, you get a JBL Bluetooth Speaker, a set of ASUS ZenEar earphones, and an ASUS Clear case! It sucks though that it only has Android 6.0 Marshmallow with ASUS’ ZenUI 3.5 and not Android 7.0 Nougat. I hope that a software update in the near future.
OPPO F3 Plus
OPPO has done it yet again. After their stellar run with the F1s last year, they are back with the F3 Plus! The standout feature of this phone is its dual cameras but of a different kind. The OPPO F3 Plus has two front cameras: a 16MP sensor and an 8MP sensor! Don’t worry though, it also has a 16MP rear camera.
It comes in three colors: Gold, Rose Gold, and this awesome Black color!
Like the ZenFone 3 Zoom, the F3 Plus is available in stores and Lazada NOW for P23,990!
And that was some of the high-profile smartphones to come out in the first few months of 2017. Is there any phone I missed out? Are you planning to buy any of the phones I mentioned in this SMARTPHONE ALERT Spring 2017 edition? Let me know in the comments section below!
