Qualcomm announced its next flagship Snapdragon 888 processor during its recent Tech Summit. I expected to see new phones with it during CES or even MWC but Xiaomi struck first. The company launched its newest flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 11, in China during its last event of 2020 in December. More than a month later, Xiaomi did just that but for the global stage. It’s the first one to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor but there’s more to the phone than that.
Okay, Let’s Talk Snapdragon 888
As mentioned during Qualcomm’s announcement, the Snapdragon 888 builds on the work done with the 865 and then some.
It has a 1+3+4 core configuration that includes the new ARM Cortex-X1 core that provides a big performance boost to the whole chip. The same chip also integrates the Qualcomm X60 5G modem which improves 5G connectivity and battery life.
Loving the Simple Design…
I gotta hand it to Xiaomi on this one: the Xiaomi Mi 11 really screams premium in terms of its design. This phone comes in two finishes: anti-glare frosted glass and vegan leather. With the anti-glare frosted glass, you get to choose between Midnight Gray, Horizon Blue, and Frost White. You get Lilac Purple and Honey Beige if you opt for the vegan leather. (For the global launch, we initially get Midnight Gray and Horizon Blue. More colors like Cloud White are coming soon.)
The Macro Camera Lives On…
…unfortunately. Good thing Xiaomi didn’t overstuff in the camera department. The triple rear camera setup consists of a 108MP wide-angle camera, a 13MP ultrawide-angle camera, and a 5MP telemacro camera. The latter means you can use it for taking zoom photos and up-close macro shots! You also get the ability to shoot in 8K resolution thanks to that huge sensor. There’s also a 20MP front camera for taking cool selfies!
On top of that, Xiaomi added six one-click AI cinema features that help you shoot more artsy videos. My favorite of the bunch is Freeze Frame Video! This feature freezes and clones video frames to create the illusion that parts of your video are frozen in time. I honestly wanna try that, to be honest.
What Else Does the Xiaomi Mi 11 Have to Offer?
The Mi 11 has a 6.81” AMOLED DotDisplay with WQHD+ resolution (a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate. This means that going through the UI and touching the elements will feel faster. It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor for faster unlock, and dual speakers that are tuned by Harman/Kardon for a better sound experience. This phone uses the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for better resistance against cracks and scratches.
If you’re wondering if Xiaomi will ditch the charger with Mi 11, then I have good news! In the global version, you get a 55W GaN charger in the box! It’s great that this is the case since the phone supports 55W wired fast charging. This phone also supports 50W wireless fast charging and even 10W reverse wireless charging!

I am not an expert when it comes to gauging phone specs but I can tell how amazing this phone can capture photos. Or maybe I just find that the camera specs you’ve mentioned are unusually seen in phones, specifically its Macro lens feature.
I am a fan of your reviews always cause it’s very honest and well detailed. How I wish to get one of those items that you have reviewed ☺️
Hehehe thanks! This isn’t really a review though since I don’t have this phone with me. 🙂
