Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 Announced

Jullian Robin Sibi 0

When it comes to foldable phones, Samsung is pretty much the one dominating the conversation. Whether it was introducing the Galaxy Fold or making them affordable with the Galaxy Z Flip 3, the company is at the forefront when it comes to this technology. It doesn’t come as a surprise to me that Samsung decided to keep refining the established formula. This results in the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. What do they have to offer? I’m here to share that.

Galaxy Z Flip 4: Enhancing the Ultimate Self-Expression Tool

Galaxy Z Flip 4 - Showcase

One thing people brought up when the Z Flip 3 came out is how its pricing will make it the most popular foldable yet. Just a year later, Samsung said that 70% of its almost 10 million foldable phones sold lean more towards the Flip. It’s no surprise that the changes made with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 improve what the Z Flip 3 introduced.

Flexible Ways to Take Photos

If you shoot a lot of selfie videos and take group selfies, then the Z Flip 4’s FlexCam is just for you! You can prop up the Z Flip 4 to take hands-free videos and group selfies. Uploading them to your favorite social media apps is easy as well thanks to FlexCam being optimized for Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and others.

A More Capable Cover Screen!

The Cover Screen receives a lot of love as Samsung added more functionality here! You can record video through the Quick Shot feature then transition to Flex mode to continue recording hands-free without stopping the video. There’s even the capability to take selfies and videos in Portrait mode through the Cover Screen. You can also make calls, reply to messages, and control the SmartThings Scene widget all from its 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover screen. Heck, you can even customize the cover screen’s background to make it match with your Galaxy Watch.

This new Flip is more durable with Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the cover screen and rear glass and an Armor Aluminum frame.

Galaxy Z Fold 4: Refining the Multitasking Powerhouse

Like its smaller sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 continues the tradition of refining a large-screen foldable phone experience. It largely looks the same, but it has a wider cover screen while maintaining a big 7.6-inch main screen inside.

Better Multitasking Capability

It’s the first device to ship with Android 12L, a version of Android that’s designed for large-screen experiences. With that in mind, Samsung was able to improve the multitasking capabilities of the Z Fold 4. Its new Taskbar offers an even quicker access to your favorite and recent apps. New swipe gestures also improve the overall multitasking experience. Samsung’s partnerships with Google and Microsoft bears fruit with better drag-and-drop support, background video call support, and even improved S-Pen functionality!

Improved Cameras and Media Experience

The Z Fold 4 gets a new 50MP wide camera and a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. You can take advantage of camera modes that utilize the unique form factor such as the larger Zoom map activated on Capture View Mode, Dual Preview, and Rear Cam Selfie. With larger pixels, a 23% brighter sensor, and enhanced processing, you can take better night photos.

That Main Screen is now brighter, still has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a less visible Under Display Camera (UDC) which features a new scatter-type sub-pixel arrangement. Popular social media apps now take advantage of the large screen. Even Netflix works better when using Flex mode! Non-optimized apps can still work better thanks to Flex Mode Touchpad. It offers accuracy while pausing, rewinding, and playing videos, or zooming in and out of content while the device is in Flex mode.
