Nokia 8.3 5G Headlines New Nokia Products!

HMD Global launched a slew of new Nokia phones during its March 20, 2020 Livestream! (They actually did something similar at MWC 2019.) That includes three new smartphones, the return of a classic, and a new hassle-free data roaming service. Of course, the star of this launch is Nokia’s 5G phone, the Nokia 8.3 5G!

Nokia 8.3 5G

Nokia 8.3 5G: Nokia’s First 5G Smartphone

With the “5G race” speeding ahead, Nokia wants to bring people a future-proof 5G smartphone. This is in the form of the Nokia 8.3 5G (pronounced as 8 Dot 3). It has the ingredients for a solid upper-midrange smartphone. Here are the full specs of the Nokia 8.3 5G:

  • 6.81-inch FHD+ hole-punch LCD display (2400×1080 resolution) with 20:9 aspect ratio
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor
  • 6 / 8 GB RAM
  • 64 / 128 GB internal storage
  • microSD card support
  • 24MP front camera with ZEISS optics
  • PureView quad rear camera system with ZEISS optics: 64MP main sensor, 12MP ultrawide sensor, 2MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro sensor
  • Side-mounted fingerprint sensor
  • 4500 mAh battery with 18W charging (9V / 2A)
  • Android 10
  • Comes in one color: Polar Night

One thing to note is that this phone only supports the sub-6 bands for 5G. This may be a dealbreaker for you but for most people wouldn’t mind this.

You can get the Nokia 8.3 5G in Summer 2020 for around 599 Euros for the 6GB RAM/64GB ROM model and 649 Euros for the 8GB RAM/128GB ROM model.

Nokia 5.3: A Familiar Setup with a Nokia Flavor

Nokia 5.3

Despite it being the middle of the pack, the Nokia 5.3 is a capable mid-range smartphone. At first glance, it seems so familiar to me. It’s a good thing this Nokia phone has its strengths. First off, this phone uses a USB-C port for charging and data. It also carries a clean Android One experience compared to its competition. Another thing going for it is its color options: Charcoal, Cyan, and Sand!

Here are the specs for the Nokia 5.3:

  • 6.55-inch HD+ LCD display (1600×720 resolution)
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor
  • 3 / 4 / 6 GB RAM
  • 64 / 128 GB internal storage
  • microSD card support
  • 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • Quad rear cameras: 13MP main sensor, 5MP ultrawide sensor, 2MP depth sensor, 2MP macro sensor
  • Rear fingerprint sensor
  • 4000 mAh battery with 10W charging (5V / 2A)
  • Android 10
  • Comes in three colors: Charcoal, Cyan, and Sand

You can get the Nokia 5.3 in April 2020 for around 189 Euros for the 4GB RAM/64GB ROM model.

Nokia 1.3: The Latest Attempt at Android Go

Nokia 8.3 5G and More - Nokia 1.3

My first (and admittedly only) experience with the Android Go edition is with the Nokia 1. It had its flaws but was the easiest way to get Android into the hands of more people. With the Nokia 1.3, HMD Global hopes to bring a more modern tech and a faster, more secure experience at an affordable price point.

Like Nokia 5.3, this phone comes in three colors: Charcoal, Cyan, and Sand. Unlike the previous Nokia 1, the Nokia 1.3 has a notched display. This phone is one of the first phones with Android 10 (Go edition). Alongside that, Google included a new streamlined Google Camera Go app. It lets you capture better shots as they happen thanks to faster shot-to-shot times when using the app.

Nokia 5310: The Return of XpressMusic!

Nokia 8.3 5G and More - Nokia 5310

I used to own a Nokia 5310 XpressMusic back then. It was really great for listening to music at a time when people download and save tons of songs! (Yeah, Spotify wasn’t a thing back then.) HMD Global decided to bring back the Nokia 5310 with a modern look!

It now has dual front-facing speakers and wireless FM radio in order for you to enjoy music in different ways! The 5310 even comes in the iconic color choices: White/Red and Black/Red.

The new Nokia 5310 will be the first one released in the lineup (this month, actually). It’ll be available in the two colors you see above for just 39 Euros.

What do you think of the new Nokia phone lineup? Do you think Nokia can still be competitive in the smartphone market? Sound off in the comments!
