realme 13 Plus Gaming Review from a Casual Gamer

Judging by the title of this article, you can tell I have a different angle on this. Yes, I’m just a casual gamer. (Heck, I would be playing even less if I don’t review phones! Hehe.) The newest members of realme’s Number Series aims to be phones that can hang with users’ mobile gaming needs. I’ve been using the realme 13+ 5G for over a week now. Despite a busy Techtober, I found some time to do a small gaming test! Like I said, this realme 13 Plus gaming review won’t be like others. This one is from a perspective of a casual gamer.

What’s New with the realme 13+ 5G for Gaming?

realme 13 Plus Gaming Review - What's New?

With the realme 13+, realme emphasized three features that specifically help gamers reach their full potential:

  • MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy processor – This processor helps realme’s claims of reaching 750,000 points in AnTuTu benchmark and is 25% higher than its predecessor.
  • 80W SUPERVOOC Charge – Gamers LOVE having even faster charging combined with a long-lasting 5000 mAh battery. With 80W SUPERVOOC charge, you can charge this phone’s battery from 0 to 50% in 19 minutes and to 100% in 44 minutes.
  • GT Mode & Vapor Chamber Cooling System – For the best possible performance in longer gaming sessions without the phone getting too hot, the realme 13+ 5G has two unique solutions. GT Mode allocates resources to the running game for constant high frame rates, while the Vapor Chamber Cooling System uses graphite sheets and other materials in a 9-Layer Cooling System. This helps reduce temperatures of heat sources by up to 19°C overall.

Other features include a 120Hz OLED display, support for 14GB Dynamic RAM Expansion, Hi-Res Dual Stereo Speakers, and IP65 Dust and Water Resistance.

With that out of the way, let’s do that realme 13 Plus gaming review!

The Scenario

Since I just snuck this in during my review process, I only got to try three games: a simple mobile game (Sudoku), a simpler MOBA game (Pokemon UNITE), and the highlighted game (Honor of Kings). I know, including Sudoku seems ridiculous but it’s just as ridiculous if a phone targeted for gamers can’t run the simplest of games. (Don’t worry, I didn’t spend too much time into it.)

For the other two games, I took a screenshot of the settings I used and recorded gameplay with an FPS counter overlay. The setup’s not too complicated and I could have done a better job. But you can go to other media outlets for more detailed aspects of a gaming review.

The Simple Mobile Game

Like I said before, I only included Sudoku to show that it can run just fine on a phone targeted for gaming. Unless you’re using a budget phone, you’d be hard-pressed

Pokemon UNITE has been a staple of the games I play when reviewing a phone, so I used it as one of the games in this review. This game isn’t exactly the most demanding, as I got the Highest graphics quality and High frame rate settings. During the game, I didn’t experience any frame drops so it was smooth the whole time.

Gameplay Settings:

When realme claimed that the 13+ can run the MOBA game Honor of Kings at 120 fps, this was definitely worth testing. Out of the box, I got the High FPS setting and level 4 for Overall Graphics Quality. Of course I changed the FPS setting to Max to see if 120 fps works. Other than that, I kept all the other settings at their default values.

While I played Honor of Kings almost as long as Pokemon UNITE, I could tell that the gameplay was smooth. The game was really responsive and I was able to play it well. Sure, the game felt easy but it always helps when the phone can keep up.

Conclusion

While this realme 13 Plus gaming review isn’t as detailed or as extensive, I think that this phone is plenty capable for gaming. Battery life wasn’t a concern the whole time I was doing this test. (I didn’t even feel the need to do a full charge!) There is a good chance that this phone will struggle with the more graphics-intensive games such as Genshin Impact or Zenless Zone Zero. But if most of the games you play are MOBA games, you’ll find the realme 13+ a great phone to use.

The realme 13 Series 5G will launch in the Philippines on October 24, 3:00 PM, via a livestream on the realme Philippines Facebook page and YouTube channel!
