Jullian Robin Sibi 0

It’s 2020 and one of the brands that has to follow up a blockbuster 2019 is realme! They came in 7th place in the global smartphone market in Q3 2019 after over a year! You would think with all that success that they’re just gonna keep doing the same thing. NOT AT ALL! With that in mind, here’s what to expect from this very young and vibrant brand! This is the realme 2020 preview!

The Leap to 5G with the realme X50!

With 5G becoming a BIG THING in 2020 (largely thanks to the jumpstart that China and Korea have), realme wants to be one of the first brands to offer a midrange smartphone with 5G connectivity. realme recently announced the realme X50 in China.

It’ll be one of the phones that support the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G. This is one of the chips that will support SA (standalone) and NSA (non-standalone) 5G! It means that when everyone else starts their 5G service, you’re sure that the realme X50 is ready for it! Not to mention it’ll have most of what its recent releases have like a quad rear camera.

Here are the specs for realme’s first 5G phone:

  • 6.5-inch hole-punch LCD display with 90.48% screen-to-body ratio and 120Hz refresh rate
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor with 5G support (SA / NSA)
  • 4200 mAh battery with 30W VOOC Flash Charge
  • Dual super-linear loudspeakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res support
  • Quad rear camera: 64MP main sensor, 12MP 2x telephoto sensor (5x optical zoom, 20x hybrid zoom), 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor
  • Fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button
  • Comes in Glacier Silver and Polar Blue

Then there’s the realme X50 Master Edition which is a fruit of realme’s partnership with industrial design master Naoto Fukasawa. It comes in two options: Point and Line!

Selling 50 MILLION Smartphones!?!

If you think entering the 5G race is already big enough, realme founder and CEO Sky Li announced the intention of growing their global shipments by more than 100 percent this year! This is after realme recorded a 500 percent year-over-year (YOY) growth in 2019!

Plans for realme 2020 include rolling out 5G devices in China covering smartphones in all price segments. This would allow all future realme devices to have 5G-enabled smartphones across its entire lineup! It also want to take advantage of the success it had in 2019.

Breaking Free from Wires with the realme Buds Air!

Right as I was making this post, realme already dropped its first salvo for 2020: the realme Buds Air!

This is basically its take on truly wireless earbuds! I personally think that it looks eerily similar to the AirPods.

These buds have three main features: Super Low Latency with the R1 chip (realme’s version of Apple’s H1 chip), Wear Detection for auto play/pause functionality, and Dual Mic for Calling using Environment Noise Cancellation (or ENC).

As of this writing, you cannot buy these in Lazada since they’re SOLD OUT! You’ll get TWO MORE CHANCES to get your own pair though. On January 29 and February 6, you can get the realme Buds Air for P2,990! (Down from its SRP of P3,990) Realme Philippines will also offer special vouchers in its official Facebook page from January 22 to February 6, 2020. Vouchers from this lower down the price of the realme Buds Air by P500.

That’s just the beginning of realme 2020! We currently don’t know if and when realme will release the X50 in the Philippines. There may be other smartphones in the pipeline to come from this young brand! Are YOU excited for what’s to come? Sound off in the comments!
