MediaTek Launches Dimensity 7200 Processor

It was actually nice seeing more smartphone brands use high-end MediaTek processors in the past year. Their having more MediaTek options to choose from is a good thing. With that in mind, MediaTek launched the Dimensity 7200: the first chipset in the Dimensity 7000 series. It makes better AI imaging features, gaming optimizations, and faster 5G speeds more accessible. This is all while promising deeply-engrained power savings for extended battery life.

Standout Features of the MediaTek Dimensity 7200

It uses the same TSMC 2nd-generation 4nm process as the flagship Dimensity 9200 processor. MediaTek says that this chip is ideal for ultra-slim designs in a variety of form factors. (I could possibly see brands use this in midrange tablets.)

Highlighted features include:

  • Consists of two ARM Cortex-A715 cores (runs up to 2.8GHz) and six ARM Cortex-A510 cores
  • Built-in MediaTek AI Processing Unit (APU) maximizes the efficiency of AI tasks and AI-fusion processing
  • Uses an ARM Mali G610 GPU and supports MediaTek HyperEngine 5.0 technology with AI-based Variable Rate Shading, and CPU and GPU smart resource optimization
  • Has MediaTek’s Imagiq 765, a 14-bit HDR ISP that supports up to a 200MP main camera, support for 4K HDR video recording at 30 fps, and AI-Camera enhancements thanks to the APU
  • Uses a 3GPP Release-16 standard Sub-6GHz 5G modem with up to 4.7Gbps downlink
  • Supports triband Wi-Fi 6E connectivity and Bluetooth 5.3
  • MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave 2.0 technology suite that ensures best-in-class cellular power efficiency
  • LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 memory support up to 6400Mbps frequency, UFS 3.1 storage
  • MediaTek MiraVision Display with HDR (HDR10+, CUVA HDR, Dolby HDR)
  • Support for displays with Full HD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate
  • AI-enabled SDR-to-HDR video playback
  • Bluetooth LE Audio technology and Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio for wireless earbuds support

Expect devices with the Dimensity 7200 to launch in the global market in Q1 2023. It’s possible that we might get them as soon as MWC 2023 if brands feel like launching some. It would be nice to see this chip in more midrange phones and tablets in the P20,000 to P30,000 range.
