Google Pixel 2 Event: Things to Expect!

Jullian Robin Sibi 1

Off the heels of the Apple event, Google announced an event for October 4th! Here’s the teaser video they released on YouTube:

They clearly tease the next generation of their Pixel smartphones. What else are they trying to tease? Here’s what I expect from this event.

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2

After the success of the Pixel and Pixel XL, Google wants to up their hardware prowess. Although it has the highest score in DxOMark’s mobile image quality test (90), it only has a single camera. Rumors say that different phone makers will produce the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL for Google. Despite HTC making the first Pixel phones, LG is in the running for making the Pixel 2 XL. I expect these phones to have an updated Pixel launcher based on Android 8.0. Speaking of Android…

Android Oreo

I also expect Google to talk more about Android Oreo. Google just announced this during the solar eclipse. Despite that, I expect them to talk about Pixel-specific features. Those can help make the Pixel stand out from other Android Oreo phones. I also expect them to reveal a way for Android Oreo phones to have an easier update system to future Android versions.

In case you didn’t know, Android Oreo is more of a refinement version. It includes small UI changes like Notification Dots and improvements like limiting background tasks.

Surprises?

Unlike the insane amount of leaks that surrounded the Apple event, the Google Pixel 2 event has little known details. Beside the phones, I haven’t heard other Google products in the rumor-sphere. Hopefully they’ll surprise us more than Apple did.
