TechBytes is a weekly dose of tech news gathered into one post! I will be putting articles that I’ve written from the past few days, related articles from various sites in the web, and tech videos! We are now back to regularly scheduled programming with a PC Throwback!
Boy oh boy! Last week really looked like a PC throwback, to be honest. Despite all the new things that was shown, Apple and Microsoft basically showed new versions of a PC. It is insane! Microsoft announced the new set of Surface products: an upgraded Surface Book, the Surface Dial which looks dead simple, and the Surface Studio. Wow. The Surface Studio is the most innovative gadget that Microsoft has put out in recent years! Even though they lost in mobile, they clearly dominate the PC market. This is pure proof of that.
Meanwhile, Apple announced new MacBook Pros! Even though it still looks like the previous models, the new MacBook Pros offer a new way to interact with a laptop: the OLED Touch Bar. The Touch Bar replaces the standard function keys. The cool thing about it is that the controls on the Touch Bar change depending on what app is shown on the screen! I find this more useful because it’s nice to have controls that fit the app you’re on.
Despite the neat changes and the sheer industrial design of the new MacBook Pros, I think that Microsoft won. It’s one thing to put a Touch display near the keyboard. I think it’s better that Microsoft brought a new take of an existing concept that’s specifically made for creative professionals. At first glance, Apple offered the best laptop experience that they have. The problem is that Apple may have confused a lot of people. People think that Apple doesn’t know who the new MacBook Pros are for. Good thing that there’s a rumor floating around on lowering the MacBook Pro prices. All I know is that I’m holding on to my Air for at least another year. Also, Windows has already failed me.

I really, really want a MacBook because of its sleek design but my husband is not a fan of Apple so he somehow discourages me to get one. LOL. I’ve seen ASUS laptops that I like too. Perhaps I’m just more used to Windows that I prefer it over anything.
PS: I’ve already listened to your podcast BTW! HAHA, laugh trip.
Diri ra jud ko khbaw sa mga bag.o ay. Nahan napud ko mo upgrade sa among Macbook. HAHA unya nalang ug maka dadels na.-Jay
Macbook is so expensive but I believe it is worth it. 🙂
I really like Microsoft’s surface book. It is really good for designers! The concept is amazing! And yea, I agree that Microsoft wins this round though. Hehe
Still at awe with the Surface Studio. Really useful for designers like me. And I’m still a proud and one very satisfied Globe LTE user. =)
That OLED bar and lack of ports on the new Macbook are just pretty ridiculous. I mean, I’ve always seen the value of Apple’s products and their appeal regardless of the price, but this time around, I just have a hard time seeing it and based on the things I’ve been reading from a lot of Apple customers, they aren’t really loving it as well. Hope they start thriving for better changes soon enough.
I like this format compared to the old. Keep going! 🙂
I’m getting a MacBook by the end of the 3rd Quarter next year. Hopefully I’d get the latest model as electronics devices are updating in exponential acceleration. I’m having a hard time keeping up, to be honest. 😀
Rich kid ning bataa bisag dili pa tingae na i-lower ang price sa new MacBook Pro kay maka afford ra japon ka! Haha. Also, since naa naman gane sila gi release na new, maypag ilaha nalang pod gipadaghan ang mga enhancements/changes.. Hayy Apple. Haha!
My laptop is dying and I’m currently saving up for a new one. I was considering a Macbook Pro at first but it’s so mahal and so libog kaayo oy. haha. #WindowsGirlHere
I like it because it is sleek and lightweight, but I can find other more affordable laptops with the same design and still get the functionality that I needed. Will probably consider getting one if I can afford it. Haha
I don’t have a Macbook pro, but when I see and handed it. It was very handy and lightweight. I am also a globeLTE user and I am satisfied then. 🙂
I have been a windows user for all my life, well maybe its because Mac PCs are too expensive for me. LOL. But I m always eyeing for that Mac Book Pro. Maybe in the near future I will get one. But honestly, those Surface Products from Microsoft are getting much attention and I love their Surface Studio. The design , the specs and the features and enhancements they’d added to it made these line of products a run for the money. If I am that rich , I will definitely get one. LOL.
I really, really like to get myself a MacBook Pro because of its weight and processor. But my budget will probably just allow me an Asus, too. I’m also thinking about getting back to coding as a hobby and Apple isn’t exactly the friendliest of all especially on the budget. If I ever go that route with them, I’ll probably explore monetizing from their apps.
Hahaha. Okay sorry now I’m far from the topic. Hahahaha.
It’s fine! Hehehe. I want the MacBook Pro but I feel the compromises aren’t worth it yet. Maybe next year.
I would love to own the Surface once I win the lotto. I look at the ad and it looked promising. I just feel though that these new release are a bit overpriced.
Wow, a well written article about MacBook. I know that I only up until wishing to have it someday. Lahi rajud ang rich kid oi. Anyway, I know since then that MacBook is really what everyone desires to have and so I am because of the design and every good things about MacBook.
I’m not a fan of iPhone but fan of this Macbook.. Would like to have one this year..
