Yes yes. I already told you that I don’t care about the Google Pixel. My reasons for that are already made clear in that blog post a while back. I also didn’t think that would change with the Pixel 3 and 3 XL last year. Despite all of that, I applaud Google’s efforts in making the best camera that happens to have a phone. This year, Google makes more strides on making a great phone with the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL!
Standout Features of the Pixel 4
Without question, the main standout feature of the new Pixel 4 is the cameras. The new Google phone now has a dual rear camera setup! It consists of a 12.2MP main camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 16MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture. Pixel 4 also has an 8MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Normally, this would be somewhat disappointing given the fact that midrange phones have triple or even quad rear cameras.
It’s a good thing we’re talking about Google here. Its ability to put computational photography to great use is nothing short of INSANE. The competition in smartphones really heats up in the camera department! Google Pixel 4 aims to secure that top spot and remain THE STANDARD in smartphone photography.
You now have Live HDR+ and dual exposure controls so you can finally see the intended image in the viewfinder! Another feature I’m really curious about is the improved Night Sight. It lets you do astrophotography with just the Pixel 4 and a tripod!
Google Assistant also works better in the Pixel 4 thanks to a new data center-based learning model. This means you can use the Assistant faster and all data stays on-device!
Two other features that I wanna mention are Motion Sense and a new Recorder app. The former takes advantage of a radar sensor that came from the work done with Project Soli. You can do more gestures thanks to that sensor and enables a better Face Unlock system! The Pixel 4 can be unlocked as you pick it up from a table!
The Recorder app does what it does with a cool twist: it transcribes your recording at the same time! You can even search for recordings based on specific words!
