YES! Apple will hold a Special Event this September 12! This is after many news outlets seemingly confirm the date. This Apple iPhone 8 event has a lot riding on it. Competitors like Samsung and LG really stepped up their game this year. Despite a lot of expectations and leaks, I want Apple to respond with FORCE.
Here are 8 THINGS to expect from this Apple iPhone 8 event:
iPhone 8
Despite the increased competition, the iPhone 8 excites me a lot! Even though there were SO MANY LEAKS, I really want to know how Apple responds. This event seems like a make-or-break moment for Apple. Although they have a lot of cash, can they still sell more iPhones? Based on the countless rumors, I think Apple can pull it off.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 8 will have a 5.8″ bezel-less OLED display. It will have a cutout section on the top of the display for the cameras and sensors. There may be no Touch ID on this phone, so Apple may implement 3D face scanning called “Face ID”. Even though I think the return to glass is weird, this enables them to FINALLY have wireless charging on the iPhone! Other things include the A11 processor, 3GB RAM, 64/256/512 GB internal storage, and will start at $999 for the 64GB model.
I really hope this is a smash hit for Apple.
iPhone 7s and 7s Plus
Alongside the iPhone 8, Apple plans to release incremental updates to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The iPhone 7s and 7s Plus will keep the same sizes as the phones before them. The new phones will have the same A11 chip, glass back, and wireless charging as the iPhone 8. These will largely be background players during the Apple iPhone 8 event.
4K Apple TV
Despite the bigger focus on apps, the current version of Apple TV isn’t that compelling. It doesn’t help that they are losing market share to Roku and Amazon. Apple will launch a new Apple TV set-top box with 4K support. It also has support for both formats of 4K HDR content: Dolby Vision and HDR10. I just wish that Apple will lower the price of the Apple TV that’s currently in stores.
LTE-Enabled Apple Watch
Ever since Apple Watch Series 2 came out, the Apple Watch found its purpose. It became a device that’s good for receiving phone notifications and a fitness companion. I honestly think that there isn’t much to improve with the Apple Watch. Good thing they thought of the next major thing: LTE connectivity.
The new Apple Watch will have built-in LTE. This will help in making the Apple Watch more independent. Despite that major change, it doesn’t have a big change in terms of its looks.
Software Updates
This one’s a doozy. If you don’t plan on buying a new Apple device, then this news is for you! Apple tends to release major updates to iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS alongside the new products.
iOS 11 includes the biggest change to the iPad since its introduction. It includes a Mac-like Dock, customizable Control Center, Drag and Drop, and support for augmented reality through ARKit!
macOS High Sierra refines what Sierra did to the Mac platform. It includes support for external GPUs, Metal 2, and support for virtual reality content consumption and creation. It is also the first macOS version to support Apple’s new file system: APFS (Apple File System). Designed for today’s Macs, it is actually faster than the previous HFS (and HFS+) standard!
More Info on HomePod!
Beside its announcement at WWDC 2017, we haven’t heard more about the HomePod. It claims to be the best home speaker ever that has Siri capabilities. The way they market this device says a lot about Siri’s shortcomings compared to Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. Hopefully we’ll find out more about it in this event.
Mac Hardware Updates!
Unless there is a separate Mac event, the Apple iPhone 8 event will also have more information on major Mac hardware! We only know a bit of the iMac Pro and there’s still the looming release of the new modular Mac Pro. I hope that Apple will also touch on this.
Surprises!
We won’t really know what else Apple announces besides the ones that got leaked. The problem is that Apple leaked A WHOLE LOT of stuff. They even released the iOS 11 GM software accidentally! I won’t be putting what was seen in the software since we’re almost there. I would rather just find out from Apple itself.
Are you excited for what Apple has in store? Are you buying the iPhone 8 or whatever they’ll call it? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
I am amazed on how technology booms so fast. I am not really into latest gadgets. Mine is just an ordinary smart phone that can still capture good photos and can be used to connect to my email and other social network accounts. I remember when we went to Hongkong before, we met another tourist and she has an iphone. Well, the quality of her photos are better than mine so I guess if someone can have the purchasing power to have it, then apple iphone might be a good choise.
