TechBytes: Apple Event Roundup

TechBytes is a weekly dose of tech news gathered into one post! I will be putting articles that I’ve written from the past few days and related articles from various sites in the web. For the first one, it’s all about the Apple event.

The Apple event that happens during September/October every year is already a staple. We usually wait for new products to be announced at this event since 2011 where Tim Cook announced the iPhone 4s. At that time, smartphone cameras were mostly bad at the time. The iPhone was on its way to be a truly dominant force in the smartphone industry at the time.

Here we are in 2016 and smartphones are WAY, WAY better than they were in 2011. I applaud Samsung for dedicating more time to their design. Lo and behold, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are beautiful phones and have best-in-class 12-megapixel cameras. The Huawei P9 and the LG G5 started the trend of having a dual-camera system. Apple has a lot of competition going for it right now.

Yet they delivered with their stellar new iPhones, a reimagined Apple Watch, and the future of wireless audio in the AirPods. Some of the changes aren’t new and others are met with quivering rage. Apple knows that. They know that despite the omissions from the iPhone 7, the additions will outweigh them all. We’ll see when it launches next week.

Apple also announced the Apple Watch Series 2. Highlights of the new smartwatch include water resistance up to 50 meters, built-in GPS, a brighter 1000-nit display, and a dual-core processor. Did I mention that there’s a new ceramic finish for Series 2? I was really surprised about that. Oh right, Pokemon GO is coming to the Apple Watch.
