We are once again in the lull after CES 2022! (Some phone makers already started their releases for the year though.) One of the companies that make a big splash at the start of the year is Samsung. With the high anticipation of the next generation Galaxy S devices, Dr. TM Roh, President & Head of MX Business gives us a peek of what to expect.

What Has Come Before

He first mentioned the big innovations that Samsung made in the past distilled in two devices: the Galaxy Note in 2011, and the Galaxy Fold in 2019.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the most refined expression of what a Galaxy Note is.

The Era of Big Phones Started With a Note

The Galaxy Note ushered in the era where we get the combination of the portability of phones and the expansive screen of tablets. I relate to what TM Roh says about scoffing at the then-huge 5.3-inch display. We now live in a world where big screens are the norm.

Another thing that came out of the Galaxy Note’s popularity is the S Pen. A certain tech visionary dismissed the notion of a stylus, but it became a beloved feature by the fans. Being able to quickly write down ideas and thoughts in Samsung Notes made people more attached to that S Pen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the most refined foldable Samsung made so far.

Folding and Flipping New Perspectives

In 2019, Samsung went on to launch the Galaxy Fold and introduced a new form factor to the mainstream. Although there was a foldable phone before it, Samsung made a more refined device despite the initial problems. Features like Flex Mode which let you have video calls hands-free really take advantage of the foldable nature. Having that bigger screen when unfolded makes multitasking with multiple apps a breeze.

What To Expect in The Next Generation Galaxy S

It surprised a lot of fans when there wasn’t a Galaxy Note smartphone released last year. They really appreciate that big screen experience and all the versatility that the S Pen brings. TM Roh says that Samsung hasn’t forgotten these experiences that their fans love. He says that they’ll bring together the greatest experiences of our Samsung Galaxy into one ultimate device.

“With it, you will own the night – taking the best and brightest photos and videos you’ve ever captured with a phone. You will also dominate the day with power, speed, and tools that can’t be found elsewhere. You will enjoy cutting edge-innovations made possible thanks to the smartest Galaxy experience yet. All while feeling good about being part of the most sustainable Galaxy ecosystem. And, yes, you will help Samsung rewrite the future of smartphones once again. Get ready for the ultimate Ultra experience,” says TM Roh, President & Head of MX Business, on what will be in the next Galaxy S.

At Unpacked in February 2022, we’ll introduce you to the most noteworthy S series device we’ve ever created.

If you’ve noticed all the words he’s mentioned: noteworthy, Ultra, S Pen. This just lets me know that the Galaxy Note as we know it is gone. I feel that whatever that new Ultra device is, it’ll basically be a Note-like device complete with a built-in S Pen.

This makes this February’s Unpacked event very interesting indeed. What are you most looking forward to with the next generation Galaxy S devices? Sound off in the comments!
