There’s something to be said about being a creative. You have all these great ideas inside your head. Sometimes you feel that they are too big for you to do it yourself. It’s also possible that you need more inspiration to further your ideas. Boy, do I have an event just for you: the Tropical Futures Forum!
What is the Tropical Futures Forum?
The forum is an avenue where creatives from Cebu and around the world gather to talk about how creativity and design can help make cities and communities better. It happens on September 13, 2019, at The Company, Cebu IT Park. This event is made possible by the partnership of DTI Philippines, Tropical Futures Institute, Happy Garaje, The Company Cebu, PRworks, Inc., and TechTalks.ph. This forum is part of the celebration of Cebu Design Week.
What’s In The Forum?
The Tropical Futures Forum will feature 15 award-winning and world-class guests. They will be visiting the Queen City of the South to share their work that has influenced and impacted countries and neighborhoods.
“Most of it is about people’s work that has a lot of that do-it yourself spirit. You know, the kind that just says, I think this needs to be here so I would like to make it happen.”
Mark Deutsch from Happy Garaje, organizer and speaker for Tropical Futures Forum
Will It Just Be A Run-of-the-Mill Forum?
OF COURSE NOT! Besides the talks, there will be other activities including:
- A film screening of the movie Kusama: Infinity by Yayoi Kusama from this year’s Design Film Festival
- A portfolio review by Dan Matutina and Plus 63
- An all-women graphic design exhibit curated by graphic designer, Dang Sering
What Are You Looking Forward To?
Good question! Despite all that, the one thing I love the most about this is the opportunity to meet all of them! I would love to have even just ONE of the people who’ll be there on The Creator Life podcast. Here’s hoping that this event would accelerate collaboration between creatives!
“Speakers from New York, Singapore, Manila, Tokyo Yamagata, and of course, Cebu will talk about their creative projects that address education, small and medium business challenges, film, music, art, and personal creative growth. Don’t miss the chance to meet world-class creatives and learn from them by joining the Tropical Futures Forum.”
Nannette Arbon, Assistant Regional Director, DTI Region 7
