Portrait Photos Using Huawei P10!

I’m sure that most people who read this already have a smartphone. Despite how varied the quality can be, smartphone cameras generally got better and better with time. Last year, Huawei started the dual camera trend with the P9 and P9 Plus. It introduced two 12MP sensors: one monochrome and one RGB. After the success of the Portrait mode of the iPhone 7 Plus, Huawei decided to do the same thing and more with the P10 and P10 Plus. Now you can take portrait photos using Huawei P10!

“Photography is painting with light, the way YOU see the world.”

Last Thursday, Huawei Philippines invited bloggers and local media to a “Behind Portrait Photography” workshop at Chateau de Busay. (Driving there was NOT easy. I could tell you that.) Despite the distance, going to the workshop was all worth it!

Product Intro

The workshop started with the introduction of the Huawei P10 and what it can do compared to the P9.

Corinne Bacani, Marketing Director of Huawei Philippines, talked about the features of the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus.

In case you didn’t know about what the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus can do, here are some of the notable features:

  • Leica® dual-camera system: One 12MP RGB sensor, one 20MP monochrome sensor
  • The dual-camera has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) which helps in getting great photos in low-light.
  • The P10 and P10 Plus has Monochrome Bokeh and Color Bokeh which helps in making great portrait photos.

With those features and a lot of manual controls, you can easily take professional-grade portrait photos using Huawei P10!

After the product introduction, we now have the actual workshop. Our speaker for that day was Sara Black, a well-known photographer who took shots of famous women in show business.

She gave us tips on how to take great portrait photos such as taking advantage of the lighting we have. Whether it’s natural light or lights that we bring along with us, she told us to use the lighting to help highlight the facial features of a person or even the scene itself.

Photo Time!

After getting some tips from her, it was time to take some pictures!

I love how the Huawei P10 Plus does the bokeh effect. It’s not perfect though; the tree to the left was not blurred. I think it probably doesn’t have enough depth data to cover that issue. I’ve seen better photos taken with said effect turned on though.

Maybe I should have submitted this photo instead. Haha. The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus really takes amazing monochrome photos thanks to that 20MP sensor dedicated to monochrome colors. I kinda like that the shadows of the trees hit the subject. (Thanks for being a good sport, Wellbein!)

We really did all we can to take our best shots since it was a contest for a chance to win a NEW Huawei P10!

After everyone got their photos in, one stood out from the rest. It was Herbert from Drift Stories!

I have to say, his photo was really, really great! I got to see him take it up close. Congratulations on your new P10, Herbert!

Thanks a lot to Huawei for inviting us to an amazing workshop! Are you impressed with some of my photos? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
